Pharmacy Department is a specialized clinical Department, responsible for ensuring the availability of safe and efficacious drugs/medicines in the Hospital at all times. The Department has well over sixteen Pharmacy Units situated in all the wards. The Pharmacy Department in JUTH has small Scale drug Manufacturing and quality control unit where extemporaneous preparations are carried out. It also has oncology Unit for the reconstitution of oncology drugs. Pharmacovigilance and drug safety unit handles Adverse drug reactions issues, while Drug and poison information unit disseminates drug information to the staff and patients/clients.
The Department has 22 Assistant Director of Pharmaceutical Services, 4 Chief Pharmacists, 2 Principal Pharmacists and 1 Senior Pharmacist. ”
Academic Activities
- The Pharmacists in the Department are involved in the training of students from West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists in their residency programme.
- They are also involved in the training of Intern Pharmacists, Pharmacy students on clinical rotation and those on IT programme.
- Topics are given to intern Pharmacists to research and present. Some of the Pharmacists are Preceptors to students from the University of Jos, and WAPCP.
Our Services
- Training of Dietetics Interns, Resident Doctors on posting, IT students, CHO students and Youth Corpers.
- Tutorials and food demonstrations to Medical Students, Community Health Officers, Resident Doctors posted to the Department.
- Lectures in the various school in JUTH, like Post-Critical Care Nursing, CHO School and Post-Basic Nephrology Nursing.
